Older riverside stock with real character
Hammond is one of the oldest parts of Maple Ridge and it looks it, in the good sense. The housing stock runs older and closer to the river than anywhere else in the city, a fair amount of it has genuine period character, and a significant share of what comes to market has been renovated at some point by somebody.
That last fact is what buyers are judging. In a neighbourhood of older homes the question is almost never the square footage, it is whether the work that has been done was done well. Which means the media has to show the work rather than shoot past it.
Shooting for renovation quality
In practice that means detail frames built into the set from the start: how a kitchen actually meets the wall, the condition of original windows and trim, what was kept and what was replaced. A wide shot of a renovated room tells a buyer it has been renovated; it does not tell them whether it was done properly, and that is the gap a serious buyer is trying to close before booking a showing.
For the genuinely original houses the approach is different again: clear honest interiors, an accurate plan and exteriors that show the lot, without dressing the property up as something it is not.
Hammond sits at the western edge of the city near the Pitt Meadows boundary.
Practical notes
Hammond streets are narrow and the lots are often close together, which limits where an exterior frame can be shot from. On several streets the only workable frontage position is across the road, and on a few it is elevated or nothing.
The older housing stock also tends toward smaller, darker rooms than the newer parts of the city. That is a lighting and blending problem rather than a framing one, and it is the main reason we will not shoot a Hammond interior as a single frame.
